Traditional crafts will support the growth of tourism in Turkmenistan.

Traditional crafts of Turkmenistan can become an important driver of the country’s tourism economy. This was stated at the international forum “TurkmenTravel-2026” by Jennet Garlyyeva, founder of the public organization “Mirasly Senet,” according to the online news resource TerraNews.

The organization “Mirasly Senet,” established on the basis of the Unique Camel Wool brand, объединяет weaving, jewelry art, and natural dyeing. It is a member of the World Craft Council and focuses on promoting Turkmen artisans in international markets.

According to the speaker, modern tourism is increasingly focused on unique experiences, which raises the value of traditional craftsmanship as a competitive tourism product. Investments in design, packaging, and branding can increase the added value of handmade products by 5–7 times. The sector is also considered sustainable due to its reliance on local resources.

Among the key priorities are the creation of craft clusters and creative hubs based on public-private partnerships. Such projects are expected to enhance the tourism appeal of different regions. Tourist participation in мастер-классах is estimated to extend their stay by 1.5–2 days, contributing to higher demand for hotels, restaurants, and transport services.

The organization also pays special attention to social aspects and ESG principles. The development of crafts supports the growth of women’s entrepreneurship and creates jobs in rural areas. The introduction of quality standards and transparent supply chains is aimed at reducing investment risks and attracting major businesses.
